What is split-forming? - New Hampshire Industries manufactures split-formed pulleys to create both drive pulleys and idler pulleys. In the split-forming process a disc of a ductile, work-hardenable material is split on edge and a groove is formed. NHI split-formed products are generally made of low carbon steel, although we have also manufactured product from both aluminum and stainless steel. Because steel is the most common material used, we here at NHI have a tendency to call these products "split steel". |

Measuring "V" pulleys - NHI employs the "over pin" method to ensure that V-Belt grooves are correctly sized. This process is defined by the Rubber Manufacturers Association (www.rma.org) and the Mechanical Power Transmission Association (www.mpta.org) standards for V-Belt Pulleys. This is a more repeatable method than measuring the effective outer diameter (EOD) of a belt in the groove. The catalog pages for the split-formed V-groove pulleys do list an approximate EOD for each belt type. It is shown for reference only. |
Contact NHI (solutions@nhipulleys.com or (800) 654-1090) with your questions early in the design process. We can help you best by understanding your application early enough in the design cycle to manufacture the most cost-effective product that meets your needs. Whether standard, evolutionary, or revolutionary, we want to supply the product that best meets your performance and cost targets.
