Protective Finishes

Title - NHI protective finishes

Protective Finishes

available from New Hampshire Industries, Inc.

Single NHI split-formed steel part

various NHI idler and drive pulleys

Why Finish?

NHI manufactures the majority of its pulleys from steel and recognizes that applications often require that a protective finish be applied for appearance reasons and for corrosion protection.  Since the need to "finish" parts varies by application, NHI offers a variety of finishing options.

Unfinished - (no corrosion protection)

Since finishing is sometimes best performed after assembly into the application, NHI manufactures split-formed and machined products with no finish applied.  (No part number suffix)

Iron Phosphate Coating -(minimal corrosion protection)

NHI stamped ("A" Series and "H" Series) idlers are processed through an iron phosphate coating during manufacturing.  Split-formed steel and Machined parts can be run through this process at a small additional cost. (No part number suffix)

Paint - (moderate corrosion protection)

NHI offers a water based enamel in two colors - black and silver/gray.  Painted finishes provide the most cost-effective way to have your equipment be "looking good" when it reaches your customer.  Applied with our in-house equipment, this popular finish is applied over an Iron Phosphate Coating.

(Part number suffix "-PB" for black, "-PS" for silver/gray)

Zinc Plate -(high corrosion protection)

For appearance and corrosion protection zinc plate with a dichromate coating is a popular choice.  The NHI standard calls for "yellow" dichromate.  Our second most popular zinc plate finish is with "clear" dichromate.  Because of the time required to plate, manufacturing lead time is slightly longer for parts when a zinc plated finish is specified.

(Part number suffix is "-ZPY" for yellow dichromate, "-ZPC" for clear dichromate)

Electrostatic Powder Coating -(high corrosion protection)

This finish is available on NHI's drive products and selected idler products.  Available in two colors - black and gray - this process produces products with a high performance finish.

(A part number suffix of "-EB" is used for black and "-EG" for gray)
